Heat Pumps

Basic RGBIf you are interested in reducing your energy costs and minimizing your environmental impact, a heat pump system may be the right heating source for your home. We can advise you on whether a heat pump would be a good option for your home and provide you with installation, repair, and maintenance services as needed.

What is a Heat Pump?

A heat pump is a home-heating device that transfers heat energy from a cold space into a warmer space. It is able to use less energy because it does not generate or conserve heat. Rather it just moves air from one place to another.

The two basic categories of heat pumps are:

  • Air-Source Heat Pump—This type transfers heat between the outside air and the air inside your home.
  • Geothermal Heat Pump—This pump transfers heat from the ground or a water source into your home. It costs more to install than an air-source heat pump, but it costs less to operate due to the relatively constant ground temperature.

What are the Benefits of Heat Pumps?

When compared to a simple electrical resistance heater, a heat pump can be up to 3‒4 times more efficient. Heat pumps are extremely energy efficient and environmentally friendly when used in mild-to-moderate climates. They are not recommended for colder climates, where another heating source would be necessary to account for the extreme temperature differences.
